Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement in which he called for a fisheries ministry that would serve the interests of the fishermen in India is misleading as a Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying already exist.
Ahead of assembly elections in Bengal, the Left Front, along with its allies Congress and the newly formed Indian Secular Front, organized a rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on February 28. Following this, an image is being shared by a section of users on social media claiming that it shows visuals of the recently held rally.
The image was shared by a Dalit Congress official Twitter page with the caption, "Look at the sea of people throngs at the Joint Rally of @INCIndia & @CPIM_WESTBENGAL at Brigade Ground in the Kolkata. This will surely give sleepless nights to rulers in Delhi as well as Kolkata."
National Convener of Congress, Sara Patel also shared the image with the same caption.
The image is also doing rounds on Facebook with a similar claim.
In our investigation, we found that the viral images are old. Though the recently held Left-Congress-ISF rally in Kolkata witnessed large crowds, the viral images date back to February 2019 when the Left Front organized a similar rally at the same ground in the run-up to Lok Sabha elections.
With the help of reverse image search, we found the image uploaded on the stock photo gallery of Alamy with the caption, "Kolkata, India. 03rd Feb, 2019. Left activist from different part of state take part in the Left front Brigade rally ahead of General Election 2019. Credit: Saikat Paul/Pacific Press/Alamy."
The viral image and the image available on Alamy are identical, except for the color filter used on one of them.
In conclusion, an old image from February 2019 showing a huge crowd in a rally organised by the Left Front in Kolkata is being falsely shared as a recent one from the Left-Congress-ISF rally.
